Northeast Farmers Market flips cakes

There are pancake feeds, and then there are pancake feeds. The Northeast Farmers Market hosts its ninth annual fundraising breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 23 at East Side Neighborhood Services, 1700 NE. 2nd St. in Minneapolis. The menu includes organic whole-grain pancakes (also gluten-free and vegan options), smoked sausages from Gerhard's Brats, vegan sausages from the Herbivorous Butcher, local syrup from Sapsucker Farms, orange juice from Sno-Pac, dairy products from Co-op Partners Warehouse and Kalona SuperNatural. The event will be zero waste with market sponsor Chowgirls providing compost service. Look for music and balloon artists, too. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under. Duluth brew fest on tap for July

July seems far in the future, but there's a reason that tickets already are on sale for the All Pints North Summer Brew Fest in Duluth on July 23. In its fifth year, it's one of Minnesota's largest craft beer festivals, with more than 100 breweries on tap. This 21+ outdoor event, hosted by the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild, features local and national brews that may be sampled in 2-ounce pours. Hours are 3-7 p.m. with music, educational events and more at Bayfront Festival Park. Tickets are $45 ($10 for designated drivers) and may be purchased at tempotickets.com/apn2016.

Dame It! boosts women chefs

Mark Sunday as a celebration. Some of the Twin Cities' most creative kitchens are led by women chefs, and the local chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier would like to celebrate that fact on April 24 with a party called Dame It! — a name that also signals the state of mind of the group, an international organization of women in food, beverage and hospitality. Minnesota's Amy Thielen of the Food Network's "Heartland Table" will emcee an afternoon of food and drink prepared by chefs, including Carrie Summer and Lisa Carlson of Chef Shack; Brenda Langton of Spoonriver; Michelle Gayer of Salty Tart; Jamie Malone of Scena Tavern and Brut; Kylene and Mel Guse of Gyst; Anna Christoforides of Gardens of Salonica, and Kim Bartmann of Barbette, Pat's Tap and Bryant-Lake Bowl. There also will be a fashion show of chefs' wear and a silent auction with items including a ride-along in the Chef Shack food truck (think of the doughnuts!) and accompanying Star Tribune restaurant critic Rick Nelson to review a meal. The party is from 2-5 p.m. at Loring Social, 1629 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. A portion of the proceeds goes toward scholarships for women culinary students and to a youth gardening project, Urban Roots. Tickets are $85 at dameit.info.
