Three cheers and an Emmy One of the early videos we created for our monthly baking series -- on Irish soda bread -- has won an Emmy award, thanks to the multimedia crew of Jenni Pinkley, Matt Gillmer, McKenna Ewen and Shari Gross. The video features Kim Ode with sidekick Lee Svitak Dean and a cast of flour, baking soda and buttermilk. Look for all the baking videos at startribune.com/baking (the soda bread video is listed in its right column). Or go directly to the winner at www.tinyurl.com/23klmcy.

Kevin Bacon in bacon We've written before about Bacon Salt and Baconnaise and how their creators have a knack for marketing. Now their skills are going toward a charitable cause prompted when a member of J&D Foods Inc. learned that a young daughter has leukemia. Ashley's Team was formed to raise money to provide games and toys to other young cancer patients. Toward that end, they made a statue of actor Kevin Bacon out of bacon and are selling it for charity. It's on eBay at tiny.cc/59tjq. Bids end Oct. 9.
