Super Bowl visitors might be forgiven for thinking that Twin Cities residents commute to work on skis.

Cross country skiers, not buses, were going down Nicollet Mall this week. Part of the entertainment for Super Bowl out-of-towners and other downtown visitors was seeing sprint ski races on a snow-covered segment of Nicollet Mall.

The races, part of the City of Lakes Loppet Festival and Super Bowl LIVE, sent skiers up and down over the Birkie Bridge set up on the mall.
