Growing up, my husband thought everyone made Thanksgiving stuffing with Wonder Bread and bacon grease -- just like his grandmother. When I was a kid, I thought everyone put oysters in their stuffing -- just like my mother. It came as a shock when, on our first Thanksgiving with friends, we discovered that other people make stuffing that is actually edible. They use exotic ingredients: corn bread, fruit, nuts, sausage, even fresh herbs. Crazy. Since then, we've experimented with different stuffings. We've used sourdough bread, corn bread and packaged bread cubes. We've added dried cranberries, cherries, apples and apricots. We've gone with almonds, pine nuts and pecans. You name it, we've tried it. Here's a sampling of alternatives.
