Western Pattern Shift Starting Monday

September 27, 2009 at 7:25PM

Near-record heat happening in the southwestern states on back-to-days at theend of the week will yield to marked cooling by the middle of the week. InCalifornia, the transition out of unusual heat and into noticeable cooling willbegin on Monday.A freshening of onshore winds will trim valley heat on Monday. It will alsoboost coastal cloudiness. Deserts of southeastern California and areas furthereast will still be hot with temperatures rivaling records.

A cold front marking the leading edge of true cooling will sweep inland fromthe West Coast and into the Inter Mountain on Monday night and Tuesday. InCalifornia, this will lead to the coolest weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.
At the same time, rain triggered by the front will skirt California to thenorth. Well inland, however, it will consolidate enough to give rise to anearly snowfall in high country between Idaho and Colorado.
