Legislative hopefuls to speak at forum

Fourteen Minnesota House candidates have been invited to take part in a forum on education on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The forum — hosted by Hopkins Public Schools' Legislative Action Coalition, in partnership with the Special Education Advisory Committee and Hopkins Community Education — will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 233 of the Eisenhower Community Center, 1001 Hwy. 7.

The candidates are from the seven voting districts within the Hopkins district's boundaries and have been invited to present their views on education and issues that affect students. The public will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Questions about the forum can be directed to Betsy Anderson at 952-988-3561 or betsy.anderson@hopkinsschools.org or Catherine Callahan at 952-988-4089 or Catherine.callahan@hopkinsschools.org.

Berkner to perform at Aleph Preschool

Beth El Synagogue's Aleph Preschool will host a concert featuring Laurie Berkner at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 26. Proceeds will benefit early childhood tuition assistance. Seating is limited, and tickets are expected to sell out.

In 2004, Berkner's band debuted on the Nick Jr. TV channel with a series of six music videos for the network's "Move to the Music" series. The network then asked her to be a regular guest in its half-hour series "Jack's Big Music Show." More information and tickets are available at www.besyn.org/laurieberkner.

Wayzata

Substitute employee interviews planned

Wayzata Public Schools' Human Resources Department has planned an interview event for candidates interested in substitute employment in the district.

The district is in need of substitutes for Culinary Express, special education paraprofessionals, general education paraprofessionals and home-based school-age child care.

Applicants should complete the online application process at www.wayzata.k12.mn.us/apply and be available between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 for an interview. The interviews are a 10-minute opportunity for hiring staff to get to know the candidates better.
