LONG LAKE EXCELSIOR

Art on the Lake set for 30th year Excelsior's Art on the Lake will celebrate its 30th year when the outdoor art festival opens Saturday and Sunday with 182 artists.

Artists from 14 states will be participating in the two-day show: "Top-drawer talent in every medium," according to Chris Lizée, who's chairing the event.

Brian Jensen, an illustrator/painter from Mound, was commissioned to create a signature piece for the 30th anniversary, and illustrated a view of Excelsior Bay on a summer morning from the city Commons' shoreline.

Jensen's painting will be printed on the Art on the Lake T-shirts, and 125 limited edition prints, signed and numbered, will be available for purchase at the show.

The original "Excelsior Bay" also will be auctioned Saturday night during a "Lake Minnetonka Cruise for Great Art," scheduled for 7-9 p.m. aboard the Queen of Excelsior. Proceeds will go to fund scholarships for graduating Minnetonka students pursuing a major or career in art.

Bands will be performing both days of the event, and kids' art activities will be offered.

Show hours are 10-6 on Saturday and 10-4 Sunday. Free shuttle buses will run during show hours from Minnetonka High School's parking lot.
