HOPKINS, MINNETONKA

School-supply drive The Hopkins Minnetonka Family Resource Center is seeking donations for its annual back-to-school drive.

Residents can drop off school supplies, socks and underwear to the center, located at 915 Mainstreet in Hopkins, between now and Aug. 8.

The most-needed items include backpacks, pocket folders, erasers, scientific and graphing calculators, glue sticks and new socks and underwear. Cash donations also are being accepted.

Families who need back-to-school supplies can contact the center beginning July 28 for eligibility rules and to make an appointment.

For additional information about items needed or to volunteer, call 952-988-5350 or visit www.hopkinsfamilyresourcecenter.com.

WESTONKA

Music in the park The Westonka School District's community education department will sponsor music in the park events at 7 p.m. on July 10, 17 and 24 at Mound Bay Park, 5701 Bartlett Blvd., Mound.

Performers include Gary Herriges and Telluric Current, Sticks and Tones, and Bellalite. Concerts will be rescheduled in the event of rain.

The Music in the Park events are supported by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and donations from businesses and other organizations.

For more information about the program or to donate, contact Sarah Heyer of Westonka Community Education at 952-491-8045 or visit www.westonka.k12.mn.us.

WAYZATA

Board appointee The Wayzata school board recently appointed former board member Greg Rye to fill the seat vacated when board member Gary Landis resigned last month.

"With a new superintendent starting on July 1, along with several other administrative changes, Greg's previous board experience will help guide us through this time of transition," Wayzata school board Chairman John Moroz said in a written statement.

Landis had been reelected to a second four-year term last November, and his term was to have run through December 2011. But Rye's appointment will run only through December 2009. The last two years of the term will be up for election in November 2009.
