School supply drive to kick off July 15

Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) will be collecting school supplies for the 2013 school year for needy students in Bloomington, Edina, Richfield and south Minneapolis beginning July 15.

Among the items needed are backpacks, spiral notebooks, wide- and college-ruled loose leaf paper, composition notebooks, two-pocket folders (solid colors/no prongs), No. 2 pencils, blue, black and red pens, markers, colored pencils, crayons, glue sticks, pencil boxes/pouches, highlighters, rulers, erasers, glue bottles, scissors and dry-erase markers.

All items must be new. Backpacks are the most-needed item.

Backpacks and supplies can be donated from Monday until Aug. 13. They can be dropped off at the Edina Resource Center located at 5701 Normandale Road. No. 171, inside north door number three.

'Once Upon a Mattress' at Blue Water Theatre

The Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata will be presenting the musical comedy "Once Upon a Mattress" at Wayzata Central Middle School at 7 p.m. on July 25-27.

Tickets are $14 for adults and $11 for students and seniors. They are available in advance online at www.bluewatertheatre.com or at the door beginning one hour before each performance.

Directed by Charlie Leonard with choreography by Barb Brauch and musical direction by Chris Larson, the cast of "Once Upon a Mattress" is comprised of more than 40 teenage actors from around the Twin Cities metro area.

Wayzata Central Middle School is located at 305 Vicksburg Lane in Plymouth.
