New prep school to open this fallA new private prep school is opening next fall in Chaska at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
Alexander Prep School will have grades 7-10. A series of open houses is being offered to meet school officials, tour the grounds and visit with special guests, including former NHL player Neal Broten, who played in the 1980 Olympics.
The next open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Carlson Room and will feature Broten. Another open house will take place from 6-8 p.m. Monday and feature Ken Dragseth, a former Edina superintendent and the director of administrative licensure at the University of Minnesota School of Education.

New private school forms from mergerImmaculate Heart of Mary School in Minnetonka and St. John the Evangelist School in Hopkins are merging this fall to create a new regional Catholic school called Notre Dame Academy.
An open house will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at 13505 Excelsior Blvd. in Minnetonka. The school will include kindergarten through eighth-grade as well as 2-, 3- and 5-day preschool programs.

Sleep out for the homelessA group of 20 sixth- and seventh-grade boys hockey players from Minnetonka are having a "sleep out" to raise money and awareness for homelessness in Minnesota.
The 20 are camping out after the Minnetonka-Edina boys hockey game Saturday, directly across from Pagel Ice Arena. They are getting sponsors and will take a collection between periods at the hockey game.
