Kennedy students head for national Skills competitionKennedy High School captured 17 medals at the SkillsUSA Minnesota 2012 State Leadership and Skills Conference, earning a trip to the national competition in June. Every member of the team received at least one award.

The 14 gold medal recipients, invited to compete at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo., include Madusu Jawara for Prepared Speech; Emily Zhao for Job Interview; Nicole Potter for Customer Service; Michaela Mahon for Extemporaneous Speech; Michaela Mahon, Cory Schroeder and Cami Thomas for Community Service; and Hermela Daniel, Michaela Mahon, Lydia Mwambi, Gina Shuck, Shelby Spurlin, Anna Zhao and Emily Zhao for Opening and Closing Ceremony.

Three students earned bronze medals: Abigail Boadu for Preschool Teaching Assistant; Pauline Onkware for Outstanding Chapter, and Michaela Mahon for Prepared Speech.

Kennedy High School teacher and SkillsUSA coach Scott Etzel coaches the team. He has been involved with SkillsUSA over the last 10 years.

Benilde-St. Margaret hosts open houseBenilde-St. Margaret's School will host an open house for prospective students and their parents on April 26.

After coffee in the library starting at 8:30 a.m., a school tour will be offered from 9-10 a.m. Then from 10-10:30 a.m., families can get questions answered and learn more about the school community.

The morning open house time will allow interested families to get a glimpse of a typical BSM school day.

Those planning on attending the open house are encouraged to pre-register for the event at www.bsmschool.org /admissions.
