West metro school briefs: Edina High School thespians presents 'Urinetown'

High school thespians presents 'Urinetown'Edina High School will present "Urinetown: The Musical," a satirical musical, starting this month.

School board forum rebroadcastA forum for Orono school board candidates will be rebroadcast this week.

The forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Wayzata/Plymouth, was held Oct. 17 with four candidates running for three open seats on the school board: Michael Bash, Dick Lewis, John Malone and Don Germanson.

It will be replayed on LMCC, Channel 21, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, Tuesday and Oct. 27.

Blake meets more candidates for top jobThe second and third of four candidates scheduled to interview for the top job at The Blake School visited recently.

Ward Ghory, who recently served as the head of school at the University School of Milwaukee, visited the school Oct. 11-12 while Mindy Hong, the interim assistant head of school at the Baldwin School in Pennsylvania, visited Oct. 13-14.

The two candidates' visits followed a visit by Anne Stavney, assistant head of the Lakeside School in Seattle, who met with school staff and families the week before. The final candidate's name hasn't been released. A finalist is expected to be named by mid-November.

The board of trustees makes the ultimate choice. The 1,400-student pre-K-12 school has campuses in Hopkins, Wayzata and Minneapolis.

Blake to host diversity symposiumThe Blake School will host its 20th annual diversity symposium Monday with artist, teacher and performer Aamera Siddiqui. She will present "American as Curry Pie" at 7 p.m. at the upper school campus at 511 Kenwood Parkway in Minneapolis.

The event, geared for children ages 9 and up, will focus on Siddiqui's experience growing up as an immigrant in the United States. It's free and open to the public.

Choir teacher receives national awardHopkins High School music and choir teacher Philip Brown recently received the Young Choral Director Award from the American Choral Directors Association. The award is given to music teachers with high performance and literature standards and less than 10 years of experience.
