Theft. An elderly woman reported that a well-dressed female carrying a package had scammed her out of $8,000. The unknown female approached her in the Rainbow Foods parking lot at 140 W. 66th St. and claimed she was a courier trying to deliver a package. She said she had a bad address and needed the woman's assistance. She convinced the elderly woman to let her sit in her car and make a phone call to her boss. She then led the woman to a bank where she went in, supposedly to talk to her boss; she came out and said there was a problem with the package — no one would claim it because in addition to a lot of money, it contained child pornography. She convinced the woman that they could split the money — $170,000 — but first they had to raise $12,000 to pay "fees." They drove to several banks and withdrew money from the woman's accounts. At the last bank, the well-dressed female disappeared.
