Hopkins volleyball coach Vicki Swenson received an unusual request last February.
A longtime friend and coaching associate, Tawny Dahmes, called Swenson with the news that she was getting married.
Dahmes asked Swenson if she would be willing to become an ordained minister and officiate at her wedding.
Swenson, who has coached Hopkins for 19 years and never has backed down from a challenge, said yes.
"I've done a lot of public speaking, so that part wasn't intimidating," Swenson said. "My goal was to not screw up and be on the bad side of grandmas. Grandmas can be a tough crowd."
The wedding went off with hardly a hitch Saturday, with Swenson performing her first ceremony.
"It was actually very fun," Swenson said. "I am forever certified in Minnesota!"
She did admit to one minor mistake, however.
