April 30, 2009 at 6:30PM

A significant rain event will impact California Friday afternoon intoSaturday morning. Heaviest rain will fall in central and northern parts of thestate from the coast to the spine of the Sierra-Nevada mountains. Rainfall inthis area will run between 0.50 and 1.00 inch. Of course, the highest ridges(above 7,500 feet) will get snow, but that's out of the realm of mostfolks. This is one of those unusual cases in which showers can impact the LosAngeles area during early May. The most likely time for showers in the southernpart of the state is Friday night and Saturday morning.

The unsettled weather will spread to the intermountain region over theweekend.
