West business briefs: Pre-leasing underway for new St. Louis Park apartments

Pre-leasing underway for new apartmentsA new apartment building -- 36 Park -- isn't expected to be opened until March 2013 but has started to sign up residents.

It's described as a luxury apartment building with amenities that include a rooftop terrace with a fire pit and grill, a clubroom featuring a billiards table and a recreation area providing lawn bowling and other outdoor games.

Applications for leases are being taken now at 3529 Raleigh Av. in St. Louis Park. Visitors can view a model kitchen, renderings of various floor plans and common areas. All applicants who sign a lease by Jan. 1 will receive a move-in incentive.

Ground broken for Maggie ManorSeveral current and former board members of Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners (ICOP) broke ground last week for a six-unit family housing development at IOCP's former facility at 110 Grand Av.

"It takes a whole village to create opportunities like this," LaDonna Hoy, executive director of IOCP, said in a statement. "Maggie Manor represents this village at its best."

Maggie Manor has four three-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units, one of which is handicap accessible.

The mission of Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota is to assist people who face barriers to education, employment and independence by providing work opportunities.

Their stores offer on-the-job training and skills while providing clothing, furniture, toys and other goods at discount prices.

Officials said that the two Goodwill stores nearest to the new Chanhassen facility are in Bloomington and Minnetonka.

The public can attend a special pre-opening sale from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday for a $7 admission charge.

"Shoppers can provide training of health care workers for treatment of childhood cancer in Tanzania or supply clean water for rural communities in Bolivia," said Kathy Weber, who is coordinating the Plymouth event.
