9,000-pound sculpture wins People's ChoiceOxymoron, a 12-foot kinetic sculpture, won first place in the People's Choice Awards for the 4th Annual Edina Sculpture Exhibition.
The artist, Bruce Stillman of Minnetrista, will get $1,000 for receiving the most votes from the public since the exhibit opened in June.
His 9,000-pound sculpture features four swinging steel pieces mounted on a granite base. They remind us of "the gravity we take for granted moving with energy from the wind," Stillman said.
All three winning sculptures will be on display for an additional year on the Promenade near Centennial Lakes Park in Edina.
Second place went to Heidi Hoy for her bronze sculpture, Jack, which depicts the love of playing guitar. Hoy, of St. Bonifacius, will receive $750.
Third place went to Joel Carter of Minneapolis for the Healing, a sculpture made of natural rocks and stones. He will receive $500.
The contest is sponsored by the Edina Public Art Committee.
