Kudos to Werk Werc Works. The Minneapolis-based indie film ministudio scored a nice award nomination for Todd Solondz' harsh comedy "Life During Wartime." The Independent Filmmakers' Project nominated the film in the Best Ensemble performance category, along with the excellent "Winter's Bone," "The Kids are All Right" and "Please Give." Also in the mix is "Tiny Furniture," unreleased here as of yet. The winner will be announced Monday, Nov. 29.

Looking ahead, the Indiewire website speculates about the upcoming Independent Spirit Awards, the Oscar of the art house. Prognosticating about competitors for Best Male Lead, the online mag bets on James Franco in "Howl," another WWW production. Nominees will be announced Nov. 30.

On a crassly commercial note, distributor Sierra Pictures has acquired the international rights to WWW's Kevin Kline/Diane Keaton comedy "Darling Companion."
