The new party bar in the former downtown Drink location finally has an opening date. Wellman's Pub is scheduled to open on April 5 at the corner of 5th Street and 1st Avenue. Wellman's has two locations in Iowa (one with a rooftop, pictured) and is connected to the Drink chain. According to Minneapolis licensing, Wellman's owner Thomas Baldwin was a shareholder in the downtown Drink, as well. From the signs in the window, Wellman's should fit right into downtown's glut of party bars and dance clubs. One of the posters reads: "If you like partying then you'll love this place." Drink, if you'll remember, went through some tough times at its downtown location. At one point last year, owner Mike Whitelaw told me he was changing the name to Uncle Buck's. Eventually, the bar simply closed.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
