Many people may spend part of the weekend heading home from their Christmas Daydestinations. Shopping may also be on people's minds either today or onSunday. The weather, unfortunately, may not totally cooperate with your plans for theweekend. The worst of the weather will be over across the nation's northernmidsection. Travel, especially today, will continue to be hindered as gustywinds blow and drift the snow and reduce visibility.

Ice will make roads slippery in upstate New York and parts of New England thisweekend. A band of rain will press through the rest of the Northeast. Not onlywill the rain lead to slow travel, but it could combine with runoff frommelting snow to cause some localized flooding problems.

The best weather for travelers this weekend will be found across the South andWest. The arrival of a new storm may make northern California the exception.

Some rain will also dampen the western Gulf Coast.
