As metro area motorists deal with another shut down on Hwy. 100 - although this one for only 24 hours - drivers escaping the city for what looks to be a delightful weekend from a weather-wise will hit the biggest snags.
Both directions of Hwy. 52 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday between Hwy. 50 in Farmington and Hwy. 19 in Cannon Falls, sending drivers heading to the Dakota County Fair on detour. To the north, I-35 has single lane between Pine City and Hinckley. Interstate 94 is single lane between Hwy. 23 in the St. Cloud area and Collegeville.
Metro drivers will have hassles of their own as a portion of northbound Hwy. 280 closes for weekend. Intermittent lane closures on the Mendota Bridge, Hwy. 5 and I-94 in downtown Minneapolis could spawn traffic tie-ups. So don't expect any easy trips to Twins games Friday through Sunday at Target Field, or Saints games or the Irish Fair of Minnesota on Harriet Island in St. Paul. The YMCA Women's Triathlon will bring closures on roads around Minnehaha Park and Lake Nokomis on Sunday morning.
Here is your guide to this weekend's road construction:
1. I-494 in Plymouth: Traffic between Fish Lake Road in Maple Grove and Hwy. 55 in Plymouth is to two lanes each direction until Nov. 4. Some ramps at the I-394/494 interchange also closed.
2. Hwy. 100 in St. Louis Park: Southbound lanes between I-394 and the Crosstown closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 10 p.m. Saturday. Lane restrictions will be in place northbound between Minnetonka Blvd. and Excelsior Blvd. The 77th Street bridge spanning Hwy. 100 is closed through mid-August.
3. I-35W in New Brighton: Watch for lane restrictions near a bridge project at County Roads 10 and H. This should be the last weekend for bridge and ramp work at County E2.
4. I-694 in Shoreview: Westbound traffic has two lanes separated by a concrete barrier between I-35E and Lexington Avenue. Ramp from westbound 694 to Rice Street closes Monday.
