Bird bonanza

St. Croix State Park, Friday-Sunday

Meet peregrine falcons, help band rose-breasted grosbeaks, build a bluebird house, watch bald eagles tend their young, take a guided warbler walk, and more. Find the complete weekend schedule online or call the park. (320-384-6615, mndnr.gov)

Wildflowers of Kathio

Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday

Learn which wildflowers grow in the area during a slide show and then take a trail walk to see what's in bloom. Attend either or both parts of the program. Meet at the interpretive center. (320-532-3523, mndnr.gov)

Family archery

Elm Creek Park Reserve, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday

Learn the basics. Shoot at stationary targets and shoot from an elevated platform. Equipment provided. Cost is $10. Call 763-559-6700 to reserve a spot. Reference number 222252-00. The program is for ages 8 and older. Children 17 years and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult. (threeriversparks.org)

Women's archery

Elm Creek Park Reserve, 1-3 p.m. Sunday

Learn the basics of shooting. Equipment provided. Cost is $10. Call 763-559-6700 to reserve a spot. This program is for 14 years and older.

Plate design gallery

Fort Snelling State Park, 10-4 p.m. Saturday, noon-4 p.m. Sunday

Artists from around the state have submitted original artwork for the first Minnesota State Parks and Trails license plate design contest. Their entries are on display. Stop by and check them out. The winner by public vote will be printed on license plates that will provide free access to all Minnesota state parks and recreation areas. The online vote will happen from June 13-19. The cost of the new plates will start at $60, plus tax. This total includes a one-time $10 fee for the plate itself and a minimum $50 contribution (renewable annually). (612-725-2724, mndnr.gov)

Beginning birding

Eastman Nature Center, 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday

Get tips for identifying birds by sight, sound and behavior. Bring binoculars or borrow a pair. Program is free to all ages. Children 17 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. (763-694-7700, threeriversparks.org)

On raptors

Lowry Nature Center, 2-4 p.m. Sunday
