Happy Saturday, all. It's a mighty fine day to spend the whole day at the 'U' -- in fact, a whole weekend! For the first time in nearly three decades, the Gophers are playing basketball, football, and hockey on campus in the same weekend, starting last night with the basketball team's beating of Tennessee Tech. Your Weekend Links correspondent was there, and will also be visiting Dinkytown for both football and hockey today. It's quite the weekend for U of M fans.

But enough about the old maroon and gold. On with some links!

*We begin this week with praise for Brian Quarstad and InsideMNSoccer.com, as he's spent the past week digging up all sorts of insider info on our beloved Minnesota Thunder. He found out that the Thunder haven't paid, well, anyone in months. He broke the news that the team has released all its players. And just last night, he had breaking news that the National Sports Center intends to start its own team -- even though the Thunder are part of a breakaway league.

*Roughkat points out the following, from Down Goes Brown: it's a handy NHL Suspensions Flowchart! This falls into the category of "so on the nose, it's almost not funny."

*Will Leitch thinks highly of Bill Simmons. I'm not sure if this is illuminating, or a case of one guy who made it big slapping another guy who made it big on the back, but it's an interesting read nonetheless.

*And finally: more than anyone else, I trust Parker Hageman of Over the Baggy to tell me how to feel about Twins moves. He's cautiously bullish on J.J. Hardy, which I'm thinking is a pretty good sign that everyone else should be, too.

That'll do it for me. Go Gophers! (At everything, if it's not too much trouble.)
