Jon Marthaler bakes up a batch of delicious links just for you. Other times, you can find him here and here.

What if we had a snowstorm... and it actually lived up to its billing? The indomitable Paul Douglas predicted 12-16" for the metro, and judging from the reports so far, this storm may actually end up being an overachiever. This morning, Douglas posted one computer model that predicted over two feet by this evening. At the moment, this is shaping up to be a famous storm; as for me, I'm adapting my usual response to Vikings disasters for use during this snowstorm. When things start to go wrong for the Purple, I turn the TV off and pretend I have other things on my mind; today, I'm keeping the curtains closed and pretending I'm somewhere that doesn't look like Ice Station Zebra. You can find out more details in my forthcoming self-help book, "Find a Happy Place: Better Living Through Willful Delusion."

On with a few links:

*I mention this St. Cloud Times article, about possibly going to half-facemasks in college hockey, only so I can reprint the following quote from Western College Hockey's Chris Dilks: "This article makes no mention of my plan to play without a right shin pad. Think of how much respect there would be then!" It's a good point: it's not full face shields that cause goonery in hockey. It's goons. (I would write a North Dakota joke to fill this space, but Rand would delete it as potentially libelous, so just go ahead and write your own.)

*Indians fans! Your team may sign Nick Punto, and we're nothing if not helpful here in Minnesota. Resident genius Stu has put together a guide to having Nick Punto on your team, which he has titled "What To Expect When You're Expecting To Sign Nick Punto".

*While you weren't paying much attention, the Timberwolves have been playing some pretty competitive basketball lately. This year is looking brighter, and there's much reason to hope for next year - except, of course, that there may not even be a season. I really enjoyed this essay about the current state of negotiations, at Canis Hoopus and from poster "Eric in Madison."

*And finally: awwww. I guess our judicial system still works.

That'll do it for me; I'm off to ignore the weather. Stay warm out there - or at least, pretend it isn't happening.
