Weekend Headline

June 9, 2010 at 7:25PM

Many a midsummer day will have nothing on the warmth and humidity that willstretch from the Mississippi Valley to the Eastern Seaboard this comingweekend. On Saturday, the axis of hottest weather will straddle the Mississippi Valleynorthward to Illinois and Missouri. St Louis, for instance, will heat to about95 F, but it will feel like 100 F and more. Chicago will take a run at 90 F,too.

On Sunday, steamy 90-degree heat will span the Ohio Valley including Louisvilleand Cincinnati. It will also leap the Appalachians to bathe Washington, D.C.,Baltimore and, indeed, much of the Middle Atlantic.

So much sticky warmth on the move during June almost inevitably impliesthunderstorms. True enough, thunderstorms will pop up in a broad corridor fromthe midsection to the Atlantic coast on Saturday and Sunday. A few of thesewill unleash torrential downpours.
