Weekend family fun: Winter Carnival, Twinsfest

The Coolest Celebration on Earth lived up to its name when the 128th St. Paul Winter Carnival kicked off Thursday night, January 23, 2014 with the Moon Glow Parade that ended in Rice Park in downtown St. Paul. WINTER CARNIVAL

St. Paul's annual celebration embraces winter with a wide array of activities. The Red Bull Crashed Ice downhill-skating race down Cathedral Hill takes place through Saturday. Robotic snow plows will compete Saturday and Sunday next to Rice Park. Other highlights include the royal coronation Friday night, the King Boreas Grande Day Parade at 2 p.m. Saturday, a Snow Park at the state fairground, ice-carving contests in Rice Park and a display of mementos from Winter Carnivals past inside Landmark Center. TWINSFEST

As spring draws near, so does baseball season. This largest fundraiser for the Minnesota Twins Community Fund features interactive and behind-the-scenes fan experiences. Fans have the opportunity to purchase unique team-issued gear, autographed memorabilia and other items.
