An early-morning arson spree targeted several garages in a seven-block swath of south Minneapolis on Sunday.
Weekend arson spree targets garages in south Minneapolis
The first of the fires behind single-family homes occurred about 1:40 a.m. Sunday and damaged two garages in the 5600 block of Dupont Avenue S., said Police Sgt. Stephen McCarty. Thirty-five minutes later, two more side-by-side garages were torched to the east in the 5700 block of Pleasant Avenue S., McCarty said.
A few minutes later, an attempt to torch a garage fizzled in the 5800 block of Pleasant.
In total, the fires caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage, McCarty said.
Police said suspect information at this time is sketchy. Police are encouraging anyone with information about these fires to call Sgt. Sean McKenna at 612-673-3389 or the Arson Hot Line at 800-723-2020.
A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in these incidents.
