Percussion powerhouse

Colin Currie is one of the world's few percussionists with a thriving soloist career. This hugely talented player — "the world's finest and most daring percussionist," according to Britain's Spectator magazine — brings a phalanx of instruments for his Schubert Club concert, including drums, vibraphone and marimba. His commitment to modern composers is reflected by a program featuring Elliott Carter, Per Norgard, Toshio Hosokawa, Rolf Wallin, Xenakis and Stockhausen. (7:30 p.m. Tue., Aria, Mpls.; $31, 651-292-3268 or schubert.org)

Folk songs and fantasies

Pianist Adam Piotr Zukiewicz brings an interesting mix of chamber works and solo piano pieces to this recital. Kobie Kloppers' "Reflections: Prologue, variations and epilogue on an Afrikaans folk song" rubs shoulders with Bach and Chopin. Also featured are Schumann's "Fantasiestucke" and Brahms' Clarinet Trio. (7:30 p.m. Wed., Baroque Room, St. Paul, $10-$15, thebaroqueroom.com)

Breakout violinist

Stephanie Arado left her post as the Minnesota Orchestra's assistant concertmaster five years ago. Now she spends more time making chamber music. Her skills as a soloist are showcased in a recital featuring Brahms' Violin Sonata No. 1, Bartok's Rhapsody No. 1, and "A la Albeniz" by Rodion Shchedrin. (Noon Thu., Landmark Center, St. Paul, free, schubert.org)

Good Friday masterpiece

Written in 1786 for a Good Friday service in Cadiz, Spain, Haydn's "The Seven Last Words of Christ" is a series of musical meditations on the final sentences uttered by Jesus on the cross. A string quartet from the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, helmed by artistic partner Jonathan Cohen on cello, gives three Easter weekend performances of this reflective masterpiece. (11 a.m. & 8 p.m. Fri., 8 p.m. Sat.; Ordway Concert Hall, St. Paul; $12-$50, 651-291-1144 or thespco.org)

Piano with strings

Pianist Yunyue Liu is the common denominator in this attractive program of chamber music by Beethoven, including sonatas for violin and cello, plus the Variations on Handel's "See, the Conqu'ring Hero Comes" for cello and piano. Violinist Marco Real-d'Arbelles and cellist Anna Sanders-Lee are the soloists. (7:30 p.m. Fri., Baroque Room, St. Paul, $5-$15, thebaroque room.com)
