Classical at Crooners

Classical performers continue to go boldly where they have never gone before. The latest venue is the Dunsmore Room at Crooners Lounge and Supper Club in Fridley. Boasting a view of Moore Lake and an 80-seat capacity, the Dunsmore's "Saturday Salon" series features a piano duet recital by Michael Kim, director of the University of Minnesota School of Music, and his wife, Kyung Kim, a piano professor at the school. Their program includes Mozart's C Major Sonata and Ravel's swirling "La Valse." (3 p.m. Sat., Crooners Lounge and Supper Club, Fridley; $20, 1-800-838-3006 or croonersloungemn.com)

Minnesota tour

Minnesota Orchestra hits the road this week for a series of concerts and educational activities in Willmar, Bemidji and Grand Rapids, Minn. They've planned an upbeat program with works by Brahms (the Academic Festival Overture), Mozart (Symphony No. 39) and Tchaikovsky's explosive Fourth Symphony. And they're bringing along the orchestra's new associate conductor, Roderick Cox, who impressed this critic with his fiery take on Tchaikovsky's Fourth at his subscription concert debut in January. (7 p.m. today, WEAC Auditorium, Willmar; 7:30 p.m. Wed., Bemidji High School, Bemidji; 7:30 p.m. Fri., Reif Performing Arts Center, Grand Rapids; $5-$30, 612-371-5656 or minnesota orchestra.org)

Accordo's power players

This week's unmissable chamber music event comes courtesy of Accordo, a top-notch string ensemble that comprises leading players from Minnesota Orchestra and the SPCO. Schumann's Märchenerzählungen and Hindemith's Clarinet Quartet will satisfy connoisseurs looking for rarities, while the more familiar A Major Piano Quartet by Brahms fills out the second half of the evening. (7:30 p.m. Mon., Plymouth Congregational Church, Mpls.; $21-$32.50, 651-292-3268 or schubert.org)

French baroque

French keyboard music of the baroque period has a very different flavor from what was written in Germany. Sample its manifold pleasures in this family-friendly recital by harpsichordist Seulgee Lee Nelson. The concert features music by Couperin and Hotteterre, with Germans Bach and Froberger doing their best French imitations. (3 p.m. Sun., the Baroque Room, St. Paul; free, thebaroqueroom.com)
