Andy Roddick, angered by malfunctioning lights and his own play, smashed a racquet and dropped to 0-2 at the ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday in London, losing to Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-3.

Roddick's outburst came in the second set, after neon advertising lights on the front of the boxes where the line judges stand began flickering. After his serve was broken, Roddick snapped, whacking a ball high into the seats at O2 Arena, then smashing his racquet against his foot.

"I was angry with myself, and there wasn't anybody else to talk to at that moment," Roddick said. "The neons in the back weren't quite to the settled position. When you're trying to track a ball, it's kind of [tough with] neon lights and stuff."

In the day's other singles match, Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-2.

AUTO RACING

Hendrick: Earnhardt not only issue The struggles of Dale Earnhardt Jr. were not the only reason for the sweeping changes made at Hendrick Motorsports.

A day after Rick Hendrick shuffled the driver and crew chief lineup for three of his race teams, the team owner said the entire organization had grown complacent because of its success. Drivers Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Earnhardt were all winless, and even driver Jimmie Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus, fresh off their fifth consecutive championship, were "off this year," Hendrick said.

"This was not a move that we made, this major of a move, because of Dale or his situation," Hendrick said. "We need to be better across the board."

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Cut to keep Walker out of match A deep cut under his left eye will prevent Herschel Walker from fighting his second professional mixed martial arts bout next week.

Walker was cut Monday during training in San Jose. The injury required stitches, forcing the former Vikings running back to pull out of his scheduled Strikeforce fight against Scott Carson in St. Louis on Dec. 4.

"I feel terrible about this," Walker said. "I had trained very hard and was excited to be returning to the cage."

Walker, 48, made MMA the latest endeavor in an athletic career in which he ran track, earned a black belt in taekwondo and trained for the U.S. Olympic bobsled team.
