Armstrong tops Benilde-St. Margaret's

• ARMSTRONG 1, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S 0: Jordan Kuznia's six solid innings and Troy Oullette drove in the game's only run as the No. 3 seed Falcons defeated the No. 1 seed Red Knights in the Class 3A, Section 6 tournament. The victory advances Armstrong into the section championship game.

• BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 10, SIMLEY 0: Jaguars starting pitcher Jamie Kaye tossed a one-hit shutout to lead No. 2-seeded Jefferson to the final in the Class 3A, Section 3 winner's bracket.

• COON RAPIDS 12, TOTINO-GRACE 6: Coon Rapids' Justin Reeves hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning to help advance the Cardinals in the Class 3A, Section 5 tournament.

SOFTBALL

Panthers nip Rosemount

• LAKEVILLE NORTH 3, ROSEMOUNT 2: Madison Malecha's two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled the Panthers to the championship round of the Class 3A, Section 3 tournament. Lakeville North will take on undefeated Bloomington Jefferson for the section title.

BOYS' TENNIS

Barrios defeats Sprinkel for section title

• CLASS 2A, SECTION 6: No. 2 seed Manfred Barrios of Hopkins defeated No. 1 seed Jesse Sprinkel of Minneapolis South 6-4, 6-3 to win the section championship. Both competitors advance to the Class 2A tournament, where Sprinkel finished third last year.

• CLASS 2A, SECTION 3: No. 1 seed Zach Ekstein of Eagan topped No. 7 seed Ben van der Sman of East Ridge 6-0, 6-2 to win the section championship. Both Ekstein and van der Sman advance to the Class 2A tournament.

BOYS' LACROSSE

Cougars win late

• CENTENNIAL 9, SPRING LAKE PARK 7: Two goals by Collin Hoch in the final 5 minutes, 17 seconds boosted the No. 4 seed Cougers past No. 5 seed Spring Lake Park in the Section 7 quarterfinals. Centennial moves on to face No. 1 seed Champlin Park in the semifinals.

Notes

• GIRLS' GOLF: Wayzata junior Madalyn Mrosak recorded a hole-in-one on the seventh hole at the Ridges at Sand Creek in the first round of the Class 3A, Section 6 tournament. Mrosak used a 7-iron on the 116-yard par three. Wayzata is in first place after the first day of the tournament.
