Erica Kladar, 23, remembers buying the platinum edition of “Fearless” by Taylor Swift when she was little. It was the first CD she ever purchased.

“I have loved Taylor Swift since I was 7,” she said.

The Twin Cities native saw both nights of the Eras Tour at U.S. Bank Stadium in 2023. On Tuesday, she found out about the singer’s engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce while at the Minnesota State Fair.

Three different people texted Kladar the news.

“I was driving to the fair so I didn’t see the post right away,” she said before viewing the Instagram post in the Creative Arts Building for the first time. “I love them and I love this for them. These pictures are everything.”

Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Instagram on Tuesday afternoon. The post has garnered more than 17 million likes. The two have been together for more than two years.

Kladar said she loved the post, saying “that’s a rock” when she saw the third photo of the singer’s ring.

Other fairgoers were not so complimentary of the engagement ring.

“It looks like a Superbowl ring,” 52-year-old James Kahle said outside the Vikings booth at the fair. “I think he took one of his Superbowl rings and converted it to an engagement ring. I don’t know her taste, so that might be exactly what she wanted.”

Twin Cities sisters Dianne Peck and Carol Ruzicka have been waiting for the engagement announcement. Peck said she was glad the duo posted it themselves since she has seen many fan theories that they were already engaged or married.

“It’s going to be the wedding of the century,” Peck said.

Ruzicka said she cannot wait to see the photos and what Swift’s dress will look like.

Kahle, of Maplewood, said he doesn’t think Kelce and Swift will last. He said he thinks that once Kelce retires and is out of the limelight, Swift’s fame might wear on their relationship.

“I think he’s embracing it now, but there will be a point where he’s not going to want that same attention,” Kahle said. “There’s no way she can ever avoid that because of her stardom.”

Da Lee Vue, a 36-year-old Swiftie and Kahle’s partner, said she’s happy for the couple and is rooting for the marriage. Vue’s son, Jordan Yang, said he doesn’t think the marriage will last either.

Kahle’s son, Logan Kahle, said whatever happens, more music will come out of the relationship.

“She’ll write a song about him and she’ll make more than his net worth,” Logan said.

Amelia Froelich is not a Swiftie, but the 28-year-old Twin Cities local’s first concert was Swift’s Red Tour back in 2013. She said she is excited and hopeful for the couple. The Instagram post, she said, also showcased the couple’s style.

“It’s giving traditional wedding photos in a way that many celebrities would not do,” she said. “I really like it.”
