Spring is near, but winter keeps calling

Light snow fell much of the night across the Twin Cities and is expected to continue sporadically this morning.

The National Weather Service charted 2 to 4 inches of snowfall in parts of the metro area. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport recorded 2.3 inches as of 1 a.m. Wednesday.

But in central Minnesota where the brunt of the storm hit, the totals were significantly higher. Ogilvie received 10 inches of snow and Isanti had 8 inches as of 2:30 a.m. today. Collegeville recorded 9.5 inches by 4:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 were closed in the St. Cloud area for part of Tuesday due to numerous vehicle crashes.

Wednesday's forecast says flurries will taper off in this morning in the metro, but skies will remain overcast. The thermometer is expected to reach 37, but will feel colder because of brisk winds.

No snow is in the forecast for the metro area on Thursday, the first day of spring.
