Weather forecast, fishing outlook for Minnesota fishing opener

May 7, 2017 at 12:16AM

Weather forecast

Weather on Saturday for the fishing opener should be about as good as it gets. High temperatures throughout much of the state are predicted to be in the 60s — similar to highs expected throughout this week. Sunshine, or some clouds with some sun, also is forecast.

Fishing is expected to be good. Lake ice went out early statewide, and walleyes similarly finished spawning early. Enough time has lapsed since then to put these and other fish in a feeding mood — though they likely will be more scattered than they would be in later ice-out scenarios.

Minnows, shiners in particular, might be challenging to find in some locales, and anglers are encouraged to stock up before leaving for their destinations or call ahead to ensure supplies are sufficient.
