An 86-year-old Wayzata woman has died after being struck by a car while walking on a sidewalk outside a new senior-living building.
Just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, Patricia Ann Halvorson was walking on the sidewalk near her apartment at Presbyterian Homes' new senior-living complex, the Promenade of Wayzata, when an elderly female driver lost control of her vehicle while backing up, striking Halvorson, according to Wayzata police.
On Saturday, the Hennepin County medical examiner identified Halvorson, who died Thursday evening from her injuries at North Memorial Medical Center. The crash remains under investigation.
The accident is one of several traffic fatalities in the Twin Cities involving seniors this month.
On June 6, James T. Parry, 82, of Long Lake, was killed by a pickup truck while walking on Wayzata Boulevard at the intersection of North Brown Road — just 500 feet from the senior apartment complex where he lived, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Richard J. Mesenburg, 72, of St. Louis Park, died after he was hit by a car near the intersection of West 36th Street and Xenwood Avenue in St. Louis Park on May 30. Also on Wednesday, a 91-year-old driver, Lorraine A. DeTuncq, died from injuries she suffered June 15 after speeding from one parking lot to another and crashing outside a skating rink in Bloomington.
