Wayzata, New Prague golf stars who shared 2013 title are tied again

Sarah Burnham and Kenzie Neisen each shot 67 to share the lead after the first round of the Class 3A girls' state tournament at Bunker Hills.

Wayzata senior Sarah Burnham shot a 6-under-par 67, helping the Trojans take a first-round lead at the Class 3A girls' golf tournament at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.

Burnham, the co-champion last year, shot a 33 on the front and a 34 on the back en route to her best score ever at the state tournament. The Michigan State recruit made seven birdies, including one on the 18th hole.

As a team, Wayzata shot a 19-over par 311 to take a 13-stroke lead over 2013 champion Edina (324). Alexandria (330) and Andover (346) round out the top four.

New Prague senior Kenzie Neisen was the individual leader through nine holes, after shooting a 6-under 31 on the front. Her round is still in progress.

The second and final round of the tournament is set for Wednesday at Bunker Hills.
