Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood have teamed up to tell the story of Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and the 2009 Hudson River airplane crash in the upcoming Warner Bros. biopic "Sully," which released its first trailer on Wednesday.
The clip shows Hanks as the famed captain, making an emergency landing into the Hudson River with 155 people aboard. Miraculously, not a single life was lost.
"This was dual-engine loss at 2,800 feet, followed by an immediate water landing with 155 souls on board," Hanks' character says in a voiceover. "No one has ever trained for an incident like that."
The trailer also shows the struggles that Sullenberger had with the media attention following the crash, when seemingly everyone in the world proclaimed him to be a hero.
When an inquiry is launched to investigate the details of the crash, Sullenberger begins to second guess whether he had needlessly endangered his passengers with his snap judgment call to land in the river and whether he actually had enough engine power to make it back to the airport safely.
"Sully" is directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Todd Komarnicki. Along with Hanks, the film stars Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney and Anna Gunn.
"Sully" will be released in theaters Sept. 9.
