Bryan Bass and Julie Sturman-Cox have been named as finalists for the position of principal at Crosswinds Arts and Science School, a year-around International Baccalaureate magnet school operated by the East Metro Integration District for students in grades 6-10.
An executive team hoped to name a principal by Oct. 1.
Bass is now serving as interim principal for the school which serves students from the St. Paul, South St. Paul, West St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights, North St. Paul/Maplewood/Oakdale, Roseville, White Bear Lake, St. Paul, Mahtomedi, South Washington County and Stillwater school districts. He previously was principal at Brooklyn Center High School and was a teacher and assistant principal at Minneapolis North High School.
Sturman-Cox was most recently elementary school principal at the American School of Bombay in Mumbai, India. She spent four years as middle school principal at the American Community School in Amman, Jordan, and was principal at Groveland Park Elementary School in St. Paul from 1999 to 2004.
NORTH ST. PAUL
Superintendent gets contract extensionPatty Phillips will be staying on as superintendent at District 622, which includes North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale, for another two years. The School Board at its Tuesday meeting approved a contract extension that will keep her through the 2012-13 school year. Her contract was to expire on June 30. The new contract will take effect July 1.
The contract extension came with a raise from this year's $175,647 to $179,160 for the 2012-13 school year.

6 new teachers join New Life AcademySix new teachers were on hand to greet students when they returned to class this fall at New Life Academy, a private pre-kindergarten-12 Christian school.
They are Adam Martell, a graduate of Bethel University in Arden Hills who is teaching business and computer education; Stacey Bouillon, a graduate of California State University-Long Beach who is teaching kindergarten; Gina Kortuem, a graduate of Concordia University in Chicago who is teaching Advanced Placement English literature; Kerri Kent, a graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa, who is teaching third grade; Sydney Larson, a graduate of Northwestern College in Roseville who is teaching high school English; and Michael Moberg, a graduate of Minnesota State University-Mankato who is teaching sixth grade.
