Warroad man, 89, dies in Roseau County crash

An 89-year-old man from Warroad, Minn., died Thursday in a one-vehicle crash in Roseau County, according to the State Patrol.

James W. Cratty was killed when the 2004 Dodge Dakota he was driving on Hwy. 11 in Enstrom Township slid off the road as he was trying to pass another car and rolled over in a ditch at 11:45 a.m.

Cratty, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, the patrol said.

His passenger, Myrna S. Cratty, 84, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

Also Thursday, authorities said that a motorist who was hit by an SUV that spun into the wrong lane New Year's Day has died.

Rebecca L. Proteaux, 69, was driving in Shakopee when a vehicle struck hers, according police. Proteaux, of Shakopee, was hospitalized and died Sunday, the medical examiner's office said.
