The River

Who opens a show on Labor Day weekend? Walking Shadow Theatre Company, that's who. Amy Rummenie directs this regional premiere of Jez Butterworth's 2014 play about a man who invites a woman friend to a remote cabin for a weekend of fishing. Suffice it to say that not everything is what it seems. Actor Andrew Erskine Wheeler, excellent in Walking Shadow's spring production of "The Christians," returns as "The Man." He's joined by Emily Grodzik and Elizabeth Efteland. Butterworth is best known for "Jerusalem," a Broadway hit that netted a Tony for actor Mark Rylance. Walking Shadow staged Butterworth's "Mojo" in 2010. (7:30 p.m. Sat., 2 p.m. Sun., 7:30 p.m. Tue. & Thu. Ends Sept. 17; Open Eye Theatre, 506 E. 24th St., Mpls.; $26, pay what you can Sept. 6, brownpapertickets.com)
