WATERTOWN, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker says he is confident a law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals ultimately will be upheld in court.
A federal judge last week blocked enforcement of the new law's requirements that abortion doctors have admitting privileges to a hospital located within 30 miles of their clinic.
The law also requires all those seeking abortions to first have an ultrasound. That provision was not challenged in the lawsuit brought by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and Affiliated Medical Services in Milwaukee.
Walker was asked about the lawsuit on Monday after a bill signing in Watertown.
U.S. District Judge William Conley has a hearing scheduled for Wednesday on a motion by the law's opponents for a preliminary injunction.
