Walgreens will open a store in the Mall of America later this year.
The national drugstore chain will occupy 7,600 square feet on the east side of Level 3, the company said Wednesday.
"Walgreens is the perfect new addition to the eclectic mix of retail, dining and attractions at Mall of America," mall vice president of leasing Carrie Charleston said in a statement.
The future footprint in the megamall is substantially smaller than the 13,900 square feet that Walgreens said is typical for its stores. It will not have a pharmacy, said Brett Burger, public relations coordinator for the mall.
The space used to be occupied by Rainbow, which will be moving to another location on Level 3, Burger said.
Founded in 1901 and based in the Chicago area, Walgreens is the nation's second-largest pharmacy chain behind CVS. Walgreens has roughly 8,100 stores in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are more than 150 in Minnesota.
