If Volcano Choir ever performs in a venue where a sign language interpreter is required by law, Justin Vernon himself might qualify. He acted out a surprising amount of the lyrics with his hands on Friday, ranging from the "door's wide open" line in "Byegone" (for which he simulated opening a door) to the "rid the [expletive] pulpit" reference in "Comrade" (how convenient there was an actual pulpit in front of him to ).

Lest it sound like he was taking himself too seriously, though, Vernon smiled throughout the show, and he did make one funny comment while introducing "Keel." "In keeping with the nautical-themed record cycle," the woodsman rocker said, "this is a song about a keel … which is a part of a boat if I remember right."
