The Vikings denied the New York Giants permission to interview quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski to be their offensive coordinator, ESPN reported Saturday.
The Sporting News reported this past week that Stefanski was new Giants coach Pat Shurmur’s preferred choice for offensive coordinator, but the Vikings would not release him from his contract unless they were able to hire Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo as their coordinator to replace Shurmur.
The Vikings officially hired DeFilippo on Friday, and they still decided to keep the 35-year-old Stefanski, who has been with them since 2006. He coached tight ends in 2014 and ’15 and running backs in 2016.
