The Lions lost dominant defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to Miami in free agency but still have high hopes for their defense this season.

The Lions allowed the Chargers to score 30 unanswered points, blowing a 21-3 lead, and lost in San Diego on Sunday. Chargers QB Philip Rivers overcame two interceptions to complete 35 of 42 passes for 404 yards and two TDs.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Matthew Stafford, quarterback

Stafford was 19-for-30 for 246 yards and two touchdowns but also threw two interceptions. Calvin Johnson caught only two passes for 39 yards for the Lions.

OUTLOOK

The Vikings' home opener against a suspect defense seems like a good matchup for a late summer day. Outlook: Horns up.
