Vikings seventh-round pick: WR Burton

Vikings conclude draft by selecting a wide receiver

April 30, 2011 at 10:49PM

The Vikings concluded their draft by selecting Stephen Burton in the seventh round with the 236th overall pick. We'll do a quick post here because Rick Spielman is about to start his post-draft press conference.

School: West Texas A&M

Size: 6-1, 221

The skinny: The Vikings wide receiver corps faces some uncertainty with Sidney Rice's status as a free agent. It's unclear if he will be a restricted or unrestricted free agent in a new collective bargaining agreement. If the NFL puts in place the 2010 rules, Rice would be a restricted free agent. Even with Rice's uncertain status, the team needs more playmakers on the outside.

Pro Football Weekly summary: "[Burton] has potential to be an effective short-to-intermediate receiver but will have to prove he can adjust to the speed of the pro game and separate from man coverage.
