Vikings release Banyard, McKenzie

Running back Joe Banyard and linebacker Tyrone McKenzie released

August 31, 2013 at 7:04PM

UPDATE: Linebacker Tyrone McKenzie has been informed of his release. McKenzie led the team in special teams tackles last season, but the Vikings had crowded numbers at linebacker, including rookie draft picks Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti.

The Vikings roster cuts are starting to leak out. Running back Joe Banyard has been informed of his release.

Banyard spent the final five weeks of 2012 on the Vikings practice squad and looks like a candidate for that again if he clears waivers.

Banyard rushed for 62 yads on 13 carries and caught seven passes for 54 yards and one touchdown against Tennessee in the final preseason game Thursday night.

Also, tight ends Colin Anderson and Chase Ford have been released.
