Center Jon Cooper overcame long odds Saturday when he found out he was the only undrafted rookie free agent to make the Vikings' 53-man roster this season.
Cooper's celebration didn't last long. On Sunday, the Vikings placed him on waivers in order to make room for center Kory Lichtensteiger, who had been let go by the Denver Broncos. But Cooper's roller-coaster ride continued today when, according to the Vikings website (www.vikings.com), the team waived offensive tackle Drew Radovich from its practice squad and signed Cooper to that unit.
So while Cooper isn't back on the 53-man roster, he is on the eight-man practice squad and is again a member of the organization. Asked about the Cooper decision earlier today, and before we learned he was returning, coach Brad Childress said: "I still love Coop. He's a competitive guy and [Sunday's move] doesn't change at all how I feel about him. There was another guy [Lichtensteiger] out there that fit the bill and had to be a part of our 53 and didn't have practice squad eligibility."
