Celebratory fireworks didn't go off after Vikings kicker Blair Walsh nailed a 34-yard field goal in the 23-20 overtime win over the Bears at the Metrodome. But tight end Rhett Ellison felt like an elephant hopped off his back.
The fireworks were all used up on a 37-yard field goal Walsh made that was called backn due to a facemask penalty on Ellison. Since it was third down, the Vikings called a run play after the penalty and lost three more yards, which led to a 57-yarder Walsh missed off the bottom crossbar.
"It was just a miracle I guess," Ellison said. "It was an amazing team win."
Ellison said he was worried about Bears wide receiver Hester on the edge to block the field goal that he forgot to block his other defender, safety Chris Conte, inside.
"I've been coached to see where I hit; I just took my eyes off the target and focused on Hester on the outside," Ellison said.
The Bears missed a 47-yard field goal after Walsh's miss, which evenutally led to Walsh's third try in overtime to seal the victory.
"These guys on defense, I feel like I should take them all out somewhere," Ellison said. "I owe them big time."
Down 20-17, Ellison also bobbled a pass in the end zone that was intercepted by the Bears in the fourth quarter with 4:38 left in the game.
