Vikings notes: Jennings adjusting to Ponder

Greg Jennings freely admits he looks better in purple than he did in Packers green. But he also knows his adjustment is more about who he'll take the field with on Sundays this season than what he'll be wearing.

The two-time Pro Bowler said after the second day of Vikings minicamp on Wednesday that he enjoys playing with quarterback Christian Ponder, who he believes has the skills needed to be successful in his third NFL season.

Jennings, however, sees an area that can improve.

"It's just about trusting the other guy," he said. "That's the one thing that kind of takes that split second off our timing. Other than that, once we develop that trust and that comfort, the sky's the limit."

That relationship-building process with a quarterback has been different from what Jennings experienced as a Packers rookie in 2006 with Brett Favre at QB.

"You came in, and it was like, 'You jump on board,' " Jennings recalled. "You get there and you make it happen."

As for adjusting to Aaron Rodgers, who became Green Bay's full-time starter in 2008?

Former Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop conducted his workout at Winter Park and underwent a physical during a free-agent visit that had the Vikings' front office intrigued. Bishop, cut by Green Bay on Monday after missing the entire 2012 season because of a torn hamstring that required surgery, reportedly was scheduled to visit Kansas City.

"Good workout," Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams said. "And we'll see. We're doing our due diligence in terms of bringing guys in who are free agents. And the neat thing is that I don't have to make those decisions. I just have to coach them once they get here."

Williams asserted he would be comfortable with the linebacking corps the Vikings have in place. But if the organization was to sign Bishop, there would be little apprehension in asking him to adapt to the Vikings' 4-3 system, which has fundamental differences from the 3-4 setup the Packers use.

"It's not rocket science; it's football," Williams said. "It's about running to the ball and tackling and reading your keys and making plays when the ball comes to you."

With Erin Henderson holding down the middle linebacker slot, Marvin Mitchell and rookie Gerald Hodges continue competing for the weakside job. And so far Williams has been impressed with Hodges' instincts and footwork.
